| Joe Henderson is one of the most celebrated tenor saxophone players in the history of jazz. Playing since the age of nine, Joe received his first professional gig in 1962. His talent was immediately evident and he signed with the respected jazz label BlueNote within just a few short months of playing professionally. Numerous Grammy awards and music industry accolades abounded including the heralded triple crown from "Downbeat" magazine which included Jazz Artist of the Year, Jazz Album of the Year ("Lush Life") and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year. This collection features selections from Joe's award winning recordings "Lush Life" and "So Near, So Far" in note-for-note tenor saxophone transcriptions as originally performed by Joe Henderson. The music of Billy Strayhorn and Miles Davis finds a kindred spirit in the interpretations given to them by Joe. This transcription songbook adds a greater dimension to those recordings.
